I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $888 for rent here. Rent is about $888/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Chicago about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..
