Planning a move to Morongo Valley -neighborhoods?

Hey folks, You can expect to pay around $1,362 for rent here. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Morongo Valley? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Came here for quality of life and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely challenging and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Old Town) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
