First post here. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Homes are going for about $155,700 on average. Median household income is $44,811, which feels on the lower side for the area. Household incomes average around $44,811 in Morristown. With a population of 30,983, Morristown is a smaller city. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Would love some local perspective. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I've lived in Eastside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The healthcare scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 55, moved here 10 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in The Heights and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The outdoor recreation situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
