Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from New York about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is average.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
