Why I chose Morton Grove over bigger cities

Curious what people think. With a population of 24,687, Morton Grove is a small town.

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The traffic scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Westside for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- The public transit scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to San Francisco it's decent.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 37, moved here 5 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The community vibe situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
