Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and With a population of 16,503, Morton is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 16,503 people. You can expect to pay around $1,001 for rent here. The median home value here is around $238,900, which is actually reasonable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I overthinking this? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 3 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much affordable but now it's underrated.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Springfield for 8 years. Moved from Houston for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is decent - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Homeless population growing downtown. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for family and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The community vibe is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
