With a population of 14,545, Moultrie is a small town. You can expect to pay around $777 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What are your go-to spots? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 53, moved here 9 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Downtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The weather situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a lawyer and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is decent in most areas.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The safety is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Old Town for 13 years. Moved from Seattle for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Property taxes are high. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.
