Biggest downsides of living in Mounds View?

OK so Rent is about $1,216/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. With a population of 12,992, Mounds View is a small town. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (West) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great Asian places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The job market is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much established but now it's challenging.
