Honest thoughts on life in Mounds View

Hey, Military spouse here. Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. With a population of 12,992, Mounds View is a small town. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Anyone in a similar situation? TIA! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 39, moved here 6 years ago from Austin. I've lived in East and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The cost of living situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
