Hi all, We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. With a population of 9,746, Mount Airy is a small town. Rent is about $1,939/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Mount Airy sits at 52.8 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Raleigh it's excellent.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The cost of living scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The traffic is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
