Mount Airy is underrated, change my mind

Curious what people think. I'm a college student here and The unemployment rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $474,800, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $1,939 for rent here. Household incomes average around $154,514 in Mount Airy. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Let me know your thoughts. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely tough and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (South) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a software engineer and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is average and there's always something going on.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The traffic is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.
