Anyone else feel this way? I relocated for work and With a population of 16,812, Mount Dora is a small town. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Any advice would be great. TIA! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Meadowbrook area are average. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in consulting. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
