Life in Mount Pleasant as a young professional

Hey folks, Median household income is $121,364, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $667,100 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Appreciate any input. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Nashville it's excellent.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I work in healthcare here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is tough in most areas.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
