Random thought, With a population of 27,694, Mount Pleasant is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,045 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I've been here 2 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been here 13 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Sunset) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 46, moved here 6 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in North and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
