Is Mount Prospect worth it salary-wise?

Hello, My family moved here when I was a kid. The median home value here is around $377,000, which seems about average. Rent is about $1,454/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What do you all think? Any help is appreciated.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- The outdoor recreation scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Minneapolis it's surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 8 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (North) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
