Moving from Indianapolis to Mount Prospect next month
So, Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $103,911 in Mount Prospect. With a population of 55,648, Mount Prospect is a smaller city. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Is this normal for Mount Prospect? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The community vibe scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a teacher and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Old Town) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 15 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely improving and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (West) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
