What I wish I knew before living in Mount Prospect

Curious what people think. The weather takes some getting used to.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely pretty good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Midtown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Chicago about 15 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Baltimore it's better than expected.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely decent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- The traffic scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..
