Alright, Crime rate is something to consider -Mount Sinai sits at 22.0 per 100K. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What are your go-to spots? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Tampa it's pretty good.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Old Town area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 3 years. Moved from Raleigh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is decent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Chain restaurants dominate. And weather can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The safety is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great seafood places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.
