Housing in Mount Vernon compared to Tampa

Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $89,700 on average. You can expect to pay around $893 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Came here for school and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The housing market is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'm a pharmacist and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 14 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
