Rent in Mount Vernon getting crazy

Rent is about $1,546/month for a decent place. Is this normal for Mount Vernon?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 6 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
