Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Charlotte and Median household income is $93,852, which feels pretty solid for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What are your go-to spots? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from San Diego about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is tough.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The school system scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.
