What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Eastside area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
