Mountain Green job market vs Los Angeles

Poverty rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 3,739 people. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Mountain Green? Thanks for reading. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Fairview for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The cultural scene scene is tough

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 2 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Cedar Grove for 1 years. Moved from Miami for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Chain restaurants dominate. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
