Housing in Mountain Lake compared to Albuquerque

Longtime lurker here, It's a a small town city with about 1,833 people. The median home value here is around $118,900, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 14.5%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Mountain Lake sits at 97.7 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in tech. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.

No regrets on my end..
