Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in finance here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is better than expected. Hope this helps!.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The school system is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Miami it's underrated.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Nashville about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Happy to answer more specific questions..
