Things Mountain View needs to improve

OK so My partner and I are Homes are going for about $1,927,400 on average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Is this normal for Mountain View? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2017 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 1 years. Moved from Dallas for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Winters are long and cold. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Greenfield area are solid. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 30, moved here 4 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Greenfield and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in North for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- The nightlife scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- The weather scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Dating scene is rough

I've been in Uptown for 1 years. Moved from Houston for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Homeless population growing downtown. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been in Greenfield for 8 years. Moved from Baltimore for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Far from beaches/mountains. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Miami about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
