Unpopular opinion about Muncie

Alright, Household incomes average around $43,395 in Muncie. Rent is about $867/month for a decent place. Median household income is $43,395, which feels on the lower side for the area. Poverty rate is 17.5%, which is higher than I expected. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 47, moved here 3 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Riverside and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Property taxes are high
3. The job market situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
