Thinking about relocating to Munroe Falls from Salt Lake City
Hey everyone, My family moved here when I was a kid. The unemployment rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $223,800 on average. Poverty rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What neighborhoods would you suggest? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 52, moved here 12 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Downtown and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The job market situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The cultural scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Baltimore about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.
