The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great seafood places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great Southern places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is improving in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Raleigh it's improving.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Diego about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 13 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is improving - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Nightlife is limited. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
