So, Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely solid and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Highland) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 5 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in construction. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The nightlife is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
