Honest thoughts on life in Myers Corner

First post here. I'm originally from San Francisco and Rent is about $1,246/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Myers Corner sits at 300.1 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from LA about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- The cultural scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Uptown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- The food scene scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..
