Is Myrtle Beach getting better or worse?
First post here. Rent is about $1,132/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 1 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Seattle about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..

If you value job market, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in South for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The cultural scene scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
