Things Nampa needs to improve

Longtime lurker here, Crime rate is something to consider -Nampa sits at 311.6 per 100K. Poverty rate is 7.2%, which is pretty low. It's a a mid-size city city with about 106K people. The median home value here is around $332,500, which seems about average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I wrong here? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I work in education here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 49, moved here 10 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Downtown and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The weather situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Dallas about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
