Anyone else feel this way? Been living here since 2019. Rent is about $1,340/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Worth the trade-offs? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely average and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (The Heights) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 12 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is better than expected.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The safety is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
