OK so My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Nanakuli sits at 232.1 per 100K. Homes are going for about $473,000 on average. Household incomes average around $81,493 in Nanakuli. Median household income is $81,493, which feels pretty solid for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,671 for rent here. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Let me know your thoughts. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The community vibe is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is tough in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Baltimore about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Highland for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- The food scene scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 37, moved here 1 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Sunset and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Can feel isolated
3. The nightlife situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
