How is Naperville for outdoor activities?

Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 4 years and Median household income is $150,937, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 52°F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $1,852 for rent here. The median home value here is around $509,900, which is pretty steep. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Dallas it's better than expected.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Houston about 6 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- The school system scene is average

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone about the same since then.
