Poverty rate is 4.4%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What would you do? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Portland about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Sunset for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- The walkability scene is improving
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. No regrets on my end..
