Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Am I wrong here?

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 10 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is average.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The pet-friendliness is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 12 years. Moved from Atlanta for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is decent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Dating scene is rough. And safety can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Raleigh it's average.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The food scene scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Denver about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.
