I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
- The safety scene is average

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 9 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 36, moved here 4 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Sunset and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The safety situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The public transit is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
