Hi all, With a population of 31,634, Naugatuck is a smaller city. It's a a smaller city city with about 31,634 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Naugatuck sits at 96.1 per 100K. Median household income is $92,184, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I overthinking this? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Springfield area are solid. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 4 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a contractor and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in East for 9 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Not very walkable outside downtown. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Downtown for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The safety scene is average
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Tampa about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is average.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
