Things that make Needham unique

Hi all, My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 32,059, Needham is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $1,146,000, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Needham sits at 32.0 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Good schools
- Diverse community
- Easy commute
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Poor road conditions
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown
Worth the trade-offs? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The pet-friendliness scene is improving

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 52, moved here 3 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Midtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Property taxes are high
3. The weather situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for couples. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I have mixed feelings honestly.
