It's a a small town city with about 2,406 people. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to San Francisco it's surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 15 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 49, moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The dating scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for remote workers. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The food scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
