The good and bad of living in New Albany

So, I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $971 for rent here. Poverty rate is 14.2%, which is around average. With a population of 37,589, New Albany is a smaller city. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What would you do? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 2 years. Moved from Miami for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is tough - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Limited entertainment options. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
