Hey everyone, I relocated for work and The median home value here is around $309,800, which seems about average. Crime rate is something to consider -New Baltimore sits at 64.3 per 100K. Median household income is $97,027, which feels pretty solid for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Any advice would be great. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Bought a house here in 2015 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely challenging and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Riverside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
