I've lived in Westside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

I've been here 4 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Background: I'm a writer, 31, moved here 9 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Uptown and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (West) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Definitely worth checking out..
