So, We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $324,400, which seems about average. With a population of 101K, New Bedford is a mid-size city. Poverty rate is 16.7%, which is higher than I expected. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Any advice would be great. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I work in government here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for work and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The cultural scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Houston about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is improving.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..
