I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Affordable housing options
- The public transit scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Old Town) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Nashville about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much developing but now it's solid.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
