Pros and cons of New Berlin after 12 years

Hey folks, I'm a remote worker and Rent is about $646/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 1,366 people. Poverty rate is 6.8%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation? The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Charlotte about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a project manager and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
