Anyone else feel this way? Crime rate is something to consider -New Bern sits at 414.1 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Came here for family and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The pet-friendliness is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Raleigh it's solid.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.
