Commute times in New Britain -how bad?

Median household income is $57,036, which feels about average for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Boston about 9 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 6 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely pretty good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Springfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
